Starbucks - Shared Planet
Starbucks Coffee Spain opened in the basement of the Hotel Westin Palace Madrid, as its first "Shared Planet" store that existed in Spain, the second in Europe and the fourth in the world of this type.
The coffee shop was constructed following a new company design strategy which respects a number of environmental criteria that appear in its Corporate Social Responsibility program, called "Starbucks Shared Planet '. In the words of CEO of Starbucks Spain and Portugal, Alvaro Salafranca, "Starbucks is committed to doing business in a responsible manner, to involving itself with the community and to environmental care."
He indicated that the chain now expects to be 'Leed' certified in Spain for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design as the store's environmental footprint is reduced by a series of measures aimed at reducing energy and water consumption, as well as the use of local materials used and recycled. In this way an energy saving of 30% will be made, among other benefits, thanks to new air conditioners and low energy light bulbs. There will also be a 40% water consumption saving following the installation of low energy taps and urinals that do not need water.
In addition, 50 percent of the wood used was brought from other Starbucks stores, while 90 percent of the new wood used is certified FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), which guarantees that the processing of this product has been done responsibly and fairly.
