Check Out for Children is a partnership between Starwood Hotels & Resorts and UNICEF. Until March 2008, the programme had raised over US$18 million for UNICEF's immunisation programmes. Thanks to the generosity of Starwood guests over the previous 12 years, UNICEF had been able to immunise more than 1 million children across the world against fatal childhood diseases

Donations by the guests of Westin hotels support UNICEF's work in bringing clean water and sanitation to schools and communities across Africa.

UNICEF works directly with community-based organisations, communities and families, helping to ensure that households have access to a clean and secure supply of water and safe and convenient sanitary facilities.

Healthier children are more effective learners. UNICEF aims to make schools healthier and more attractive for children, through school-based water, sanitation and hygiene programmes. The project particularly benefits girls, who spend less time fetching water and therefore have more time for school.

By helping to build separate, decent sanitation facilities in schools, UNICEF can encourage more children to continue going to school. In addition, hygiene promotion in schools creates conditions where children themselves can be agents of change in their families and communities.
